SRINAGAR: Senior separatist leader Mohammed Shafi Reshi, also touted as the brain behind issuing of their 'protest calenders', was arrested here on Sunday along with his five associates inflicting another blow to pro- Pakistan hardliners in Kashmir.

Reshi was arrested along with his associates from Baba Demb area in the city when he was shifting his hideout and were on his way to prepare another set of calender, popularly known as 'date sheet' in the Valley, in which separatists announce their programmes for protests.

He was immediately whisked away to an unknown location where he was being subjected to questioning as he is alleged to be one of the key coordinators between Pakistan-based terror group Lashker-e-Taiba and separatists, officials said.

His arrest comes a day after Jammu and Kashmir Police arrested Asiya Andrabi, leader of the radical all-women group Dukhtaran-e-Millat. She was picked up from her hideout by a special team along with her 'second-in-command' Fahmeeda. Andrabi, who has been leading a separatist campaign, had been evading arrest for long.

Reshi was wanted by police for anti-national activities and indulging in separatist violence.

These leaders have been acting in tandem with another separatist leader Masarat Alam, who is said to be behind the stone-pelting campaign in the Valley, officials said. Alam is still evading arrest.
