At a time when Kashmir seems to have lost its younger generations to the cycle of stone throwing and police firing, what are some of the relatives of the separatist leaders doing? HT has a list of 27 separatist leaders who are part of the current unrest but whose kith and kin are away from the 
valley, either studying or doing a job.

In the current unrest in the Valley, none of the relatives of the separatists, who were giving calls for freedom, was on the streets throwing stones at the security forces.

Consider Sayeed Ali Shah Geelani, the most strident of the separatists.

His grandson Izhaar Geelani (22) has been working as crew-member in SpiceJet airline in New Delhi since June, when the current unrest, which has consumed 105 lives, started.

Geelani's son Nayeem Geelani (not the father of Izhaar) is a doctor in Pakistan, and his daughter is settled in Jeddah (Saudi Arabia). And his son-in-law, Anwar Fazli, is an engineer.

That the matter is attracting the attention of the people is evident from the fact that Geelani has been forced to say that the exam timetable in Kashmir will be kept in view while preparing the next protest calendar.

"We don't want to waste a year of students, who played an important part in the freedom struggle," Geelani said on Friday.

Two sons of Sajjad Lone are also away from the streets of Kashmir and are studying in Delhi.

Similarly, the son and daughter of Mian Qyoom, the president of the Kashmir Bar Association and has been taken into preventive custody, are studying in a private law college in Jammu.

Qyoom had been questioning the right of India over Kashmir.
