Purmandal Pilgrimage near Jammu-Purmandal Utterbaheni

Purmandal Pilgrimage near Jammu-Purmandal Utterbaheni

A three day Chaiter Chaudishi fair is held at Purmandal Utterbaheni from April 4. Like Amarnath yatra the holy mace, Pavitra Chhad, is taken out from the Ranbireshwar temple here in Jammu to Purmandal and have a holy dip at the Devak River. The crystal clear water flowing beneath the sandy bed of the river Devak is a pleasant experience.

The Mansar Development Authority has constructed bath rooms for the ladies and provided other infrastructural facilities. There are number of temples of lord Shiva which are similar to those in Varanasi (Banaras). There was a time when the journey to Purmandal Utterbaheni was utterly difficult.

The dacoits and highway men would strike the caravan of the travelers but over the years a pucca road has been constructed and a regular bus service is available for this holy place. The old havelies and sarais are being repaired to provide accommodation to the visiting pilgrims.

The state government should aim to develop it as a pilgrim tourist destination.
