J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages organised All India Urdu Mushaira at Abhinav Theatre

J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages organised All India Urdu Mushaira at Abhinav Theatre here on Friday. The mushaira was presided over by noted poet Krishan Kumar Toor. In all 38 poets of national repute participated in the mushaira, which was organised by the Cultural Academy as part of 62nd Republic Day celebrations.

Member legislative assembly from Lolab, Abdul Haque Khan declared the function open. Other guests of honour included advisor to state chief minister, Mubarak Gul, MLA, Darhal, Choudhary Zulfiqar, MLC, Murtaza Khan and director Doordarshan Kendra, Srinagar Dr. Rafeeq Masoodi.

Earlier welcoming the guest’s additional secretary, Cultural Academy, Shamima Akhter said that the All India Urdu Mushaira is an annual event and the Cultural Academy had been holding it since early 60’s. She said the Academy would continue the practice in future also.

Speaking on the sidelines of the mushaira, advisor to state chief minister, Mubarak Gul said that the Cultural Academy should continue the practice of holding the All India Urdu Mushaira as such steps were instrumental in promoting national integration.

Echoing Gul noted broadcaster and media consultant of Jammu and Kashmir government, Farooq Nazki said that by holding such national level mushaira’s the Cultural Academy was promoting national integration.

Narrating his experience Bihar based poet, Manzar Aijaz said that the Urdu mushaira was a good platform for a poet like him and he was thankful to the Academy of Art, Culture and Languages for inviting him and others to such an event.

The mushaira was participated by several poets of national repute and included such names as Aijaz Ansari, Manzar Aijaz, Shams Tabrez, Ajaz Popular, Irshad Ghayal, Mamta Singh and Nayeem Akhter Khadmi among others from outside state.

The local poets of note, who participated in the mushaira, included Muzaffar Iraj, Hamdam Kashmiri, Rafeeq Raaz, Arsh Sehbai, Sham Talib, and Amin Banihali among others. 

The proceedings of the mushaira were conducted by poet – litterateur Ayaz Rasool Nazki.
