UDHAMPUR: To finalise arrangements for celebration of Navratra and Dussehra festivals in Udhampur town, Deputy Commissioner, Udhampur, Baseer Ahmed Khan, convened a meeting with the district officers and prominent citizens of the town, on Wednesday.

SSP, Surinder Gupta, Addl. Deputy Commissioner, Rajinder Singh, Chief Medical Officer, Assistant Commissioner, Revenue, Dy. Controller, Civil Defence, officer of Municipality, PDD, PHE, R&B, Fire Services, Youth Services and Sports, President, Dussehra Celebration Committee, Satpal Sharma and members of the celebration committee including Rama Nand Baria, Ved Parkash, Sham Swaroop Kalsotra, Dharam Veer Gupta, Vikram Slathia and Rakesh Gupta attended the meeting.

It was decided in the meeting that the main function would be held at Sports Stadium, Udhampur on 17th October, 2010 where the effigies of Ravna, Kumbkarna and Meghnatha would be installed and consigned to flames.

Regarding other arrangements like drinking water and power supply, security, sanitation, Medicare, seating and barricading, the DDC directed the officers of PHE to make arrangements of barricading and drinking water supply, uninterrupted power supply and flood lights by PDD, First-Aid by Health Department, sanitation by Executive Officer, Municipality and District Police to deploy adequate police personnel at vintage points of the town besides ensuring traffic regulation by the traffic police.

The DDC also asked the officers of Civil Defence and Fire Services to deploy vehicles at the venue of function to meet any eventuality while Civil Defence Organisation would provide the services of Civil Defence volunteers both during first Navratra and Dusshera at stadium. He also directed the Executive Officer, Municipal Council to give a clean look to the town on these festive occasions well in advance.

The meeting was informed that the procession carrying Jhankies of Bhagwan Rama, Laxmana and Sita would start from Seetla Mata Temple, Chowk Chabutra, Udhampur at around 4:00 PM and after passing through main bazaar, Gole Market, Mukerjee Bazaar, Court Road and Slathia Chowk would culminate at Sports Stadium.

During the meeting, various arrangements including deployment of police personnel, traffic regulation, sanitation and imposition of traffic restrictions and uninterrupted power supply in the town during the Navratras also came up for discussion with directions from the DDC to officers of departments concerned to ensure effective preparations pertaining to their departments well in advance. To keep a check on the rates and quality of the eatables, a team of officers comprising Chief Medical Officer, Assistant Director, CAPD, Tehsildar, Udhampur, Executive Officer Municipality, Assistant Commissioner Metrology and SHO, Udhampur would conduct frequent visits of the market particularly during the festival days to ensure that there should be no over charging. The shopkeepers have also been directed to exhibit the rate lists of eatables for the information of public.
